- You are a Pro!
Hopefully everyone is starting or getting ready to start the 2024-2025 School Year. I wish everyone a wonderful school year. Remember to take there time for yourself: take a walk, contact a friend, call your mom, go out to eat. Remember, a more relaxed teacher is a better teacher.
- 3 Reasons to love teaching for Spring.
If you have not done it by now, change your thinking about teaching with a “Glass Half-Full’ outlook. With the change of the weather change your attitude about your whole career. This is a career that you do not have to wallow in. How do you think the seasoned teachers have survived so long? Find a seasoned vet with a positive attitude, talk to them, and take a peace of their advice with you. This Spring is the perfect time to accept all the responsibilities, stress, students, workload, and understand that you are a Pro and there is nothing you can not change your attitude about and conquer in this prestigious career. It took me 8 years to change my attitude and outlook, once I did, I loved the job forever!
Spring weather– Be thankful the weather has changed with Spring. That in all is the number one reason to love being teacher during Spring. Take your students outside, make spring lessons, clean up and redecorate the classroom. Upgrade your wardrobe. Remember a mentally happier teacher is a better teacher and your students deserve the best teacher you can be with the change to warmer weather.
Spring represents past the midpoint– For other careers it is still the beginning of the year, but for teachers we are past the midpoint. Everything is running smooth with class procedures and expectations. At least that is down. Now time to focus on any end-of-the-year exams. Spring is a time when you can love that long desired summer vacation, but you can also love the fact that you ship has sailed past the halfway mark of where you are sailing.
Light at the end of the tunnel– If you are having “One of those years” no need to woe yourself when the year is half done. Perhaps you can start your end-of-the-year countdown early this Spring, lol. Chances are, you are keeping your position or even having ideas for what to teach next year. Take the time to contemplate if you can switch positions and let your administrators know in advance. Best time to do this while they are in the Spring Fever mode. What ya got left, April, May, part of June?
Most importantly like always, remember to take time for yourself: take a walk, call your parents, go to that new restaurant, read for fun and not professional development, walk your dog. Do something personally enjoyable everyday. Remember a more relaxed teacher that takes the time to unwind is a better teacher and everyone deserves your best- 247 Teacher
- 3 Positive Reasons to love March as an educator.
For educators, arriving in March is almost the light of the tunnel. Logically, March is a midpoint, the beginning of the year- done, holiday season- gone, January/February- finished. You made it to be more focused for the upcoming standard testing and the end of the year. Whether you are a 1st year teacher or been a stand-and-deliver teacher for decades, here are 3 positive reasons to love March as an educator.
#1- The light at the end of the tunnel is coming. March is considered a midpoint and after you get your Spring Break. Trust us all, educators start counting down the school year once their Spring Break is complete. April and May are busy with testing coming up and the many end of the year conferences for placement, IEPs, and other meetings. March is the final Month where things won’t get too crazy. Enjoy your Spring Break and then enjoy getting a glimpse of the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
#2- Easy holidays come in March. What easier holidays and significant days come in March? Unlike the what may seem to be overwhelming holiday seasons in November and December, March has the easiest holidays and significant days ever to juggle your busy schedule around. You have fun St. Patrick’s Day, Ramadan, Good Friday and a little special day we all love Daylight Savings, lol. Cheer up and look at these special events with a positive outlook. Most you do not have to celebrate at all and only have to recognize. Yes I know, Daylight Savings we all lose an hour, but please please look at the positive of getting a longer and warmer sunshiney day. Don’t forget Easter is the last day of March!
#3-Spring Break! Need I say more. Use it for catching up on lesson planning, organization, setting up conferences and appointments, test preparations OR use it for what is intended-Break! Mix it up if you have to but I always recommend you use it to go to a beach, visit friends, take a vacation. Spring Break is all any educator needs to stay positive for March.
Remember, you are a 247 teacher! All teachers are whether you are burnt out or a seasoned veteran, teaching and delivering to our students is always in the back of our mind. It is not a job that you leave and the work stays there so please, take time for your health. No matter what you do during March, always take the time to for yourself: take a walk, visit a park, call a family member, spend time with your nieces and nephews, binge watch movies and shows. Remember a mentally healthier teacher is better teacher and your students deserve the best teacher you can be everyday this March.
Stay positive all March! – J. Harrod @247 Teacher
