For educators, arriving in March is almost the light of the tunnel. Logically, March is a midpoint, the beginning of the year- done, holiday season- gone, January/February- finished. You made it to be more focused for the upcoming standard testing and the end of the year. Whether you are a 1st year teacher or been a stand-and-deliver teacher for decades, here are 3 positive reasons to love March as an educator.
#1- The light at the end of the tunnel is coming. March is considered a midpoint and after you get your Spring Break. Trust us all, educators start counting down the school year once their Spring Break is complete. April and May are busy with testing coming up and the many end of the year conferences for placement, IEPs, and other meetings. March is the final Month where things won’t get too crazy. Enjoy your Spring Break and then enjoy getting a glimpse of the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
#2- Easy holidays come in March. What easier holidays and significant days come in March? Unlike the what may seem to be overwhelming holiday seasons in November and December, March has the easiest holidays and significant days ever to juggle your busy schedule around. You have fun St. Patrick’s Day, Ramadan, Good Friday and a little special day we all love Daylight Savings, lol. Cheer up and look at these special events with a positive outlook. Most you do not have to celebrate at all and only have to recognize. Yes I know, Daylight Savings we all lose an hour, but please please look at the positive of getting a longer and warmer sunshiney day. Don’t forget Easter is the last day of March!
#3-Spring Break! Need I say more. Use it for catching up on lesson planning, organization, setting up conferences and appointments, test preparations OR use it for what is intended-Break! Mix it up if you have to but I always recommend you use it to go to a beach, visit friends, take a vacation. Spring Break is all any educator needs to stay positive for March.
Remember, you are a 247 teacher! All teachers are whether you are burnt out or a seasoned veteran, teaching and delivering to our students is always in the back of our mind. It is not a job that you leave and the work stays there so please, take time for your health. No matter what you do during March, always take the time to for yourself: take a walk, visit a park, call a family member, spend time with your nieces and nephews, binge watch movies and shows. Remember a mentally healthier teacher is better teacher and your students deserve the best teacher you can be everyday this March.
